    CLEAR Kit

So, What Is A CLEAR Kit?

Think of it as the instruction manual for your life for those who might need it if something were to happen to you.

Created by an attorney with an MBA (with the help of many others), the CLEAR Kit is often described as the most comprehensive end-of-life planning and organization resource available.

Fun fact: CLEAR is an acronym.

It stands for Comprehensive Legacy & Estate Administration Repository Kit.

A little formal sounding, sure. But that’s exactly what the CLEAR Kit is: one organized place for the information, documents, and instructions that can help someone understand and manage your affairs.

Designed as an easy-to-use binder system, it’s much more than a place to store worksheets and checklists.

It gives you a structured way to organize the information, decisions, and details your family may one day need.

That includes guided worksheets, organized section tabs, fillable digital files, personalization, a Getting Started guide, and connected tools and resources to help you along the way.

The CLEAR Kit turns your information into a roadmap someone else can actually follow.

A system only helps if people can actually use it.

That’s why the CLEAR Kit gives you a guided structure for organizing important documents, accounts, contacts, instructions, decisions, and everyday details, along with the context someone else may need to understand what matters, where to find it, and what to do next.

It shows you what to organize.

Fortunately, you don’t need to know what belongs in an estate and life organization system. (That's our job.)

The CLEAR Kit walks you through the documents, accounts, contacts, instructions, decisions, and everyday information worth capturing.

Fun fact: The CLEAR Kit is personalized

You're unique, just like everyone else.

That's why each CLEAR Kit is personalized for the person or household receiving it, making the system easier to use and truly your own.

It explains why the information matters and what to do with it.

Knowing that an account exists is helpful. Knowing why someone may need it, what they should know about it, and what they may need to do next is much more useful.

That context is a big part of what makes the CLEAR Kit different.

It’s organized thoughtfully by topic.

You might list an account, identify an important contact, document instructions, record a decision, explain how something works, or note exactly where an original document can be found.

Your existing documents fit into the system too.

Already have a will, trust, power of attorney, insurance policy, deed, or other important document?

Add a copy where it makes sense, or use the CLEAR Kit to show someone exactly where the original is located.

It goes far beyond wills, trusts, and financial accounts.

Where’s your will? Who has your power of attorney? What bills are on autopay? Which email account controls everything else? Who takes care of the dog? Where’s the water shutoff?

The CLEAR Kit helps capture the information someone may actually need to step in and manage things.

Essentials covers the core. Expanded goes much deeper.

Essentials uses one binder to cover the most important estate planning, financial, medical, personal, and household information most families should have organized.

Expanded uses three binders and goes much deeper into family, medical care, property, finances, household details, belongings, digital life, and more.

Both use the same guided approach. Expanded simply helps you organize more. And if neither is quite right, you can build your own CLEAR Kit and choose what works for you.

Fill it out on paper, digitally, or both.

Write directly on the professionally designed worksheets, complete the fillable files on your computer, or use a combination of the two. There’s no right way to do it. Use whatever works best for you.

You don’t have to finish it all at once.

Start with the sections that matter most. Skip what doesn’t apply. Come back to the rest later. When something changes, update the page you need instead of starting over.

It helps you find loose ends while you can still fix them.

You might discover an outdated beneficiary, a missing document, an account nobody else knows about, or an important decision you’ve never communicated.

Finding those gaps while you can still do something about them is part of the value.

It’s more than an organizer you buy once and put on a shelf.

The CLEAR Kit is part of Buried in Work’s broader ecosystem of tools and resources, including thousands of free educational resources at BuriedinWork.com, the award-winning No Loose Ends book, and Heirloom & Tell for organizing, preserving, and sharing important information digitally.

You may buy the CLEAR Kit today, but the goal is to keep helping as your life, family, and responsibilities change over the next 10, 20, or more years.

It gives the people you care about a clear place to start.

If they ever need to step in, they won’t have to reconstruct your life from filing cabinets, inboxes, passwords, paperwork, and memory. The CLEAR Kit helps them understand what exists, where to find it, why it matters, and what to do next.

A real tab, front and back

This is what a tab looks like

Every one of the numbered sections opens with a guided tab like this one. You are looking at the real thing, not a description of it.

Front of a CLEAR Kit guided tab, showing what the section is, what to gather, and the key resource
Front. What the section is, why it matters now, and what to gather.
Back of the same CLEAR Kit tab, showing when the information may be needed and related resources
Back. What someone may need from it later, and where to find more online.

Shown at screen size with a preview mark. The tab in your binder is full size, unmarked, and printed on heavy stock.

Previews are on screen only. Order a kit for the printed tabs.

Choose the CLEAR Kit that fits you.

Start with one of our two most popular configurations, Essentials or Expanded, or build your own by choosing only the pieces your family needs.

Every CLEAR Kit follows the same numbered structure and includes printed and digital tools. You can also begin with Essentials and expand it later.

Essentials focuses on the core documents, contacts, instructions, wishes, and practical information someone may be most likely to need during an emergency or after a death. You can add Binders 2 and 3 later for $90 per adult.

Build Your Own CLEAR Kit

Choose exactly what goes in it.

Choose the number of adults, how much you want to organize, printed or print-at-home worksheets, how your files arrive, your storage case, and any optional extras.

The price updates as you choose, and it takes about two minutes.

Build Your KitSee your available choices

Even if you don’t finish it, you’ll have finished something.

Your Estate & End-of-Life Summary Workbook is emailed immediately after you order, so you can organize the most important high-level information before your CLEAR Kit even arrives.

In about an hour, you can give your family a useful record of who to call, where important information is kept, and what may need attention first.

Complete the rest of the CLEAR Kit over time. Even if you never finish every section, you’ll still have left behind more clarity than you had before.

Ready to give your family a clearer place to begin?

I created the CLEAR Kit from experience. Experts helped make it better.

Adam Zuckerman, founder of Buried in Work
As an attorney who has served as an executor, I learned something firsthand: a family can have all the right documents and still leave everyone guessing about what to do next.

I created the CLEAR Kit to fix that, then asked subject matter experts to challenge it, poke holes in it, and help make it better.

The result is a practical system that helps families organize what matters, understand why it matters, and leave behind clear direction instead of a scavenger hunt.

Have questions?

Below are answers to the most common questions we receive.

Is the CLEAR Kit right for me?

The CLEAR Kit is designed for adults who want to organize the documents, information, and instructions their loved ones or representatives may eventually need.

You do not need to be wealthy, elderly, seriously ill, or finished with your estate planning. The CLEAR Kit can help whether you are starting from scratch or already have documents scattered across filing cabinets, computers, email accounts, and that one drawer everyone avoids.

What does the CLEAR Kit help me organize?

The CLEAR Kit helps you organize important estate, financial, medical, digital, household, property, family, and end-of-life information.

Depending on the version you choose, it may cover:

  • Important contacts
  • Wills and trusts
  • Powers of attorney and healthcare documents
  • Insurance and government benefits
  • Financial accounts and expenses
  • Digital accounts and devices
  • Medical information
  • Family and dependent information
  • Pets
  • Property and belongings
  • Business interests
  • Debts
  • Tax information
  • Final arrangements and instructions
Do I have to complete every section?

No.

Complete the sections that apply to you and return to the others when they become relevant.

The CLEAR Kit is designed to help you make steady progress, not turn estate organization into a second job.

Should I keep original documents in the CLEAR Kit?

That depends on the document and your circumstances.

Some people store originals in the CLEAR Kit. Others store originals in a safe, attorney’s office, financial institution, or another secure location and place copies or location instructions in the binder.

The important thing is to make sure your family or representatives know that the document exists and where the original can be found.

Should I put passwords in the CLEAR Kit?

You do not need to list every password directly in the CLEAR Kit.

You may instead identify your password manager, explain where access instructions are stored, and document the devices, accounts, authentication methods, and trusted contacts your representatives may need to know about.

Use appropriate care before recording passwords, recovery codes, or other highly sensitive credentials.

Is the CLEAR Kit a substitute for an estate planning attorney?

No.

The CLEAR Kit is an organization and guidance system. It does not create a will, trust, power of attorney, advance directive, or other legal document.

It is not legal, tax, financial, or medical advice. It may, however, help you identify missing or outdated documents and arrive at a professional’s office considerably more organized.

What is the difference between CLEAR Kit Essentials and CLEAR Kit Expanded?

CLEAR Kit Essentials includes Binder 1 and Sections 1 through 22. It covers the information families and representatives are most likely to need first, including estate documents, important contacts, medical coverage, digital access, financial accounts, and recurring expenses.

CLEAR Kit Expanded includes everything in Essentials, plus Binders 2 and 3 and Sections 23 through 47. It adds broader personal, medical, family, care, property, household, insurance, debt, business, and tax information.

Can I upgrade from Essentials to Expanded later?

Yes.

You can begin with Essentials and add Binders 2 and 3 later. You will not need to repurchase Binder 1 or start over.

The numbered section structure remains the same, making it easy to expand your CLEAR Kit when you are ready.

Should I choose One Adult or Two Adults?

Choose One Adult if you are organizing information for one person.

Choose Two Adults if two people are organizing their information, including spouses or partners.

Each adult receives their own set of materials so their documents, accounts, wishes, and instructions stay together.

Why does each adult receive separate binders?

Each adult has their own legal documents, accounts, medical information, digital life, wishes, obligations, and instructions.

Keeping each person’s information together makes the CLEAR Kit easier to complete, update, and use. It also avoids forcing couples to sort information into Adult 1, Adult 2, and Shared sections.

What is the difference between Printed and Print at Home?

The Printed CLEAR Kit arrives assembled and ready to use. It includes binders, guided section tabs, printed worksheets, a storage case, “Where to Find My CLEAR Kit” cards, a key organizer, and digital worksheet files on a USB drive.

Essentials Print at Home includes the Binder 1 section materials and worksheets on a USB drive for you to print and assemble using your own binder and supplies.

Is Print at Home available for Expanded?

No.

Expanded includes all 47 sections across three binders for each adult. That would require a substantial amount of printing, organizing, hole-punching, and assembly at home.

We can print and assemble the complete system more efficiently than most customers can, so Expanded is available only as a professionally printed kit.

What are the guided section tabs?

The tabs do more than divide the binder.

Each guided section tab explains:

  • What the section covers
  • What documents and information to collect
  • Why the information matters
  • How your executor or loved ones may use it
  • Where to find related Buried in Work resources

It's not just a divider. It is a roadmap.

What is the Estate & End-of-Life Summary Report?

The Estate & End-of-Life Summary Report helps you organize the high-level information your loved ones may need first.

It creates a practical starting point while you continue completing the rest of the CLEAR Kit.

You will receive it by email after ordering so you can begin before your physical CLEAR Kit arrives.

What is the Getting Started booklet?

The Getting Started booklet explains how the CLEAR Kit works, where to begin, and how to make progress without becoming overwhelmed.

It helps break a large project into smaller, more manageable steps.

What is the key organization system?

The key organization system helps you identify and organize important physical keys your loved ones or representatives may need.

This may include keys for your home, vehicles, safe deposit box, storage unit, mailbox, cabinets, or other secured property.

What are the “Where to Find My CLEAR Kit” cards?

These cards let trusted people know that you have completed a CLEAR Kit and where it can be found.

You can give them to family members, representatives, or other trusted contacts without giving them immediate access to the contents.

Is the storage case fireproof or waterproof?

The case is fire and water resistant. It is designed to provide additional protection from common household emergencies.

It should not be described as completely fireproof, waterproof, or indestructible.

How many binders and storage cases are included?

Each adult receives their own binder materials.

  • One-Adult Essentials includes one Binder 1 in one storage case.
  • Two-Adult Essentials includes two Binder 1s in one shared storage case.
  • One-Adult Expanded includes one complete three-binder set in one storage case.
  • Two-Adult Expanded includes two complete three-binder sets in two storage cases.
Are digital worksheet files included?

Yes.

Digital copies of the applicable worksheets are included on a USB drive. You can complete them digitally, print replacement pages, and update your information as life changes.

These files are separate from CLEAR Kit Online, which is being developed for the future.

How does the CLEAR Kit connect to Buried in Work?

CLEAR Kit sections connect to related Buried in Work guidance, including articles, checklists, directories, tools, templates, and other resources.

These resources help you understand what to organize, identify potential gaps, and learn what your family or representatives may eventually need to do with the information.

Does the CLEAR Kit include Heirloom & Tell?

Every CLEAR Kit purchase includes complimentary limited access to Heirloom & Tell as described with the product you select.

Heirloom & Tell helps you preserve family stories, meaningful belongings, recipes, memories, timelines, and other information your family may want to keep.

The CLEAR Kit helps answer, “What do we need to do?”

Heirloom & Tell helps answer, “What do we want to remember?”

Is Heirloom & Tell required to use the CLEAR Kit?

No.

The CLEAR Kit can be used independently. Heirloom & Tell adds tools for preserving stories, belongings, family history, and other meaningful information.

Is CLEAR Kit Online available?

Not yet.

The digital files currently included with the CLEAR Kit are fillable worksheet files provided on a USB drive.

CLEAR Kit Online is being developed as a separate guided online platform. More information will be shared when it is ready.

Can the CLEAR Kit help me identify gaps?

Yes.

As you work through the CLEAR Kit, you may discover that:

  • A beneficiary designation is outdated
  • A policy is about to lapse
  • A legal document cannot be located
  • An account lacks a transfer or payable-on-death designation
  • Nobody knows where an original will is stored
  • A digital account has no access plan
  • Important instructions exist only in your head

Finding those gaps now is one of the most valuable parts of the process.

How often should I update my CLEAR Kit?

Review it at least once a year and whenever something significant changes.

Examples include:

  • Marriage, divorce, birth, or death
  • A move
  • A new job or retirement
  • A major purchase or sale
  • A new account or insurance policy
  • A change in health
  • Updated estate planning documents
  • New beneficiaries
  • A changed password manager or phone number
What support is available if I need help?

The CLEAR Kit includes guided tabs, worksheets, the Getting Started booklet, and access to related Buried in Work resources.

Buried in Work also offers educational materials, courses, and other services that may help with estate organization and end-of-life planning.

Can I buy a CLEAR Kit as a gift?

Yes.

A CLEAR Kit can be given to a parent, spouse, adult child, friend, client, or another person who would benefit from organizing their information.

Because estate organization can be personal, it often helps to explain that the gift is intended to make life easier for them and the people they care about, not to suggest that anyone is going anywhere soon.

Do you offer CLEAR Kits for professionals, businesses, or organizations?

Yes.

Buried in Work offers options for professionals, businesses, employers, financial institutions, law firms, senior communities, and other organizations.

Wholesale, retail, affiliate, and professional programs may also be available.

Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee?

We want you to feel confident in your purchase.

You may return your CLEAR Kit within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the product price.

To be eligible, the complete CLEAR Kit must be returned in good condition. Customers are responsible for return shipping, and a $10 return processing fee will be deducted from the refund. If Buried in Work paid for the original shipping cost, that amount will also be deducted.

Because every CLEAR Kit includes digital files, requesting a refund means you agree to delete any digital copies provided with the kit.

You don’t have to organize everything today.

You just need a better place to begin.
