Nokbox vs. CLEAR Kit
Two useful systems. Two different approaches.
Both prepare your information for the people who may eventually need it. Nokbox does it through a category-based file system. The CLEAR Kit does it through a guided, personalized system organized around what your family may need first.
The right choice depends on how you want to get organized, keep the information current, and leave it for someone else to use.
CLEAR Kits are $199 for one adult, $339 for two — printed, assembled and personalized, with the fire- and water-resistant case and key organizer included.
How the Physical Products Compare
For a clearer comparison, this table compares The Original Nokbox with a one-adult CLEAR Kit Essentials.
| Comparison point | The Original Nokbox $159 | CLEAR Kit Essentials $199 for one adult, $339 for two |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $159 | $199 for one adult, $339 for two. Expanded is $299 and $449. Every kit is professionally printed and assembled, with a storage case and key organizer included. |
| Physical format | A watertight file box with color-coded categories and labeled hanging folders | A personalized zip-around binder stored in a fire and water resistant locking case |
| Organization method | Organized by subject | Organized by subject and sequenced around what someone may need first |
| Guidance | Checksheets tell you what to put in each folder and provide instructions for your next of kin | Each guided section explains what to collect, why it matters, and how the information may be used |
| How it is divided up | 15 categories containing 67 labeled folders | 22 guided sections in Essentials, 47 in Expanded, holding 79 printed worksheets. Each account, policy, property or person gets its own record sheet, and you print more when you need them, so the number of sections is not a limit on how much you can record. Folders and guided sections are not the same measure, so the counts should not be read one for one. |
| Ways to complete it | Complete the printed checksheets by hand, or, as Nokbox says, “type up your own answers on your computer, print them out, and drop them in.” | Complete the printed worksheets by hand, fill out the PDFs digitally, or use both |
| Making updates | Update the information stored in the relevant folder or checksheet | Edit the digital worksheet, print the updated page, and replace only what changed |
| Where access codes go | Not addressed separately in Nokbox's published materials | One section (15, Digital Security & Access), designed to be removed from the binder and stored separately. Every other section says not to record codes there. |
| Replacement and additional pages | A full replacement document set is sold separately at $49, printed. Individual section sets are also sold separately and include printable PDFs. | Included. Fillable and print-ready copies of every worksheet are in the Resource Center, so you print a replacement page or another record sheet whenever you need one. |
| Online Resource Center | Online resources and the Nokbox Academy. Replacement and update materials are sold separately. | Included with every kit. Get started, open fillable worksheets, print replacement pages and extra records, pick up updated materials, and give whoever eventually finds the kit somewhere to begin. |
| Protection | Watertight box. A separate fire-resistant model is also offered. | Fire and water resistant locking case included with printed Essentials and Expanded kits |
| Portability | File box with a carrying handle | Zip-around binder can be carried to family conversations and meetings with professional advisors |
| Multiple adults | Nokbox says married couples may use one box, two boxes, or supplement one box with a Lite kit depending on how their information is shared | Each adult receives a separate, complete, personalized system |
| Personalization | Not personalized | Personalized with the recipient’s name |
| Digital family organization | Nokbox describes itself as a physical system and separately offers digital downloads and tracking resources | Connected to Heirloom & Tell, a private digital family hub |
| Broader guidance | Educational resources, Nokbox Academy, and customer support | More than 170 Information Hubs, plus checklists, directories, tools, guides, and practical resources |

Designed for completion
The best system is the one you actually finish.
Buying a box or a binder is easy. Sitting down and writing out what someone else would need is the hard part, and it is where most of these projects stall. The CLEAR Kit was designed around that.
Know where to start
The Getting Started booklet and the Summary Workbook give you a clear first step, so you are not staring at an empty section wondering where to begin.
Work a little at a time
You don’t have to take on all 47 sections at once. Start with the ones that matter most, or take Essentials for the first 22 and add Expanded later.
Fill it out your way
Prefer typing? Use the fillable files, save them, and print the finished pages. Prefer pen? Write straight on the printed worksheets. Use both if that suits you.
Update only what changed
When something changes, update that worksheet, print the new page, and swap it in. You don’t redo the section.
Take it with you
Bring the binder when you sit down with a partner, a parent, an attorney, an accountant or a doctor. A lot of this gets settled in conversations, not alone at a desk.
Get more help when you need it
The Resource Center keeps the fillable and replacement files coming. Buried in Work has the hubs, checklists and guides for when a worksheet raises a question.
You don’t have to organize your whole life this weekend. The kit shows you where to start and helps you work through it.
Why people finish it
This is the system your family wishes you had.
Not because they care what kind of binder you bought. Because someday they may be the ones working out where everything is, what you wanted, who to call, what accounts exist and what they are supposed to do next.
The CLEAR Kit is designed to help you do that work now, while you are the one who can answer the questions.

The thinking behind the CLEAR Kit
The CLEAR Kit wasn’t organized alphabetically. It was organized around what happens next.
The CLEAR Kit’s structure is based on the framework behind No Loose Ends, winner of the 2026 NYC Big Book Award and a 2026 Living Now Gold Medal, with a foreword by the President of the National Funeral Directors Association.
That framework is designed around what someone may need first during an emergency, incapacity or death, not simply how paperwork is traditionally filed.
CLEAR Kits have shipped to customers in all 50 states.
Why this matters
Estate information is not always needed in neat category order. During an emergency, incapacity or death, some information tends to matter sooner than the rest. The CLEAR Kit’s numbered sections are designed around that reality.
What families tell us
Collected against the CLEAR Kit rather than against a single version.
We’re blown away by your product - both practical and necessary!!
This is exactly what we needed to get organized.
If I could shout the benefits of this from some rooftop, I would.
I can finally get rid of my yellow notepad.
This is wonderful. You've really thought of everything.
You really did think of everything.

Where CLEAR Kit Is Different
The meaningful differences are how the system is structured, what is included with it, and how it connects with the rest of your family's information.
Connecting Directors called Buried in Work: “This Seriously Might Be THE Most Comprehensive End-of-Life Resource Ever.”
More than what’s in the binder
Your CLEAR Kit connects to a lot more.
The physical CLEAR Kit works on its own. But every kit also connects you to tools and resources that can help you get started, keep your information current, answer questions, and organize the things that do not belong on a worksheet.
Use and maintain it
CLEAR Kit Resource Center
Everything you need to use and maintain your CLEAR Kit.
Start here when your CLEAR Kit arrives. Access fillable versions of every worksheet, print replacement pages or additional records when you need them, and return for updated CLEAR Kit materials over time.

Use It the Way That Works for You
Estate information does not stay useful if it is difficult to complete, carry, or update.
CLEAR Kit gives you the flexibility to work on paper, on a computer, or with both.

Questions People Actually Ask Us
What am I actually paying for with CLEAR Kit?
You are paying to make life easier for the people who may one day need to step in.
CLEAR Kit helps your family find the right information faster, understand what they are looking at, and know where to begin. It helps reduce the searching, guessing, missed details, and difficult conversations that often happen during an emergency, incapacity, or death.
It also helps you now. The guided process shows you what may be missing, what needs attention, and what your family would not know unless you told them.
The binder, worksheets, digital files, personalization, and storage case are how the system is delivered. The real value is leaving your family with clearer information, fewer unanswered questions, and less to figure out during an already difficult time.
How much does a CLEAR Kit cost?
A customized CLEAR Kit starts at $140 for one adult, with the 22 Essentials sections and no storage case.
Essentials is $199 for one adult and $339 for two. Expanded is $299 and $449. Your final price depends on the number of adults, how much you want to organize, storage, and optional additions.
Can I buy only part of a CLEAR Kit?
Yes. The builder lets you choose the parts you want and leave out the parts you do not.
You can also begin with Essentials and add the additional Expanded sections later.
Can two adults share one CLEAR Kit?
We recommend a separate system for each adult.
Even spouses may have different accounts, contacts, documents, medical information, wishes, responsibilities, and property. Separate systems make it easier for someone to locate the right information without having to determine which entries apply to whom.
What does Heirloom & Tell add?
Heirloom & Tell adds a private digital place for family information that does not fit neatly inside a legal document or physical binder.
That may include belongings, ownership and heirloom preferences, stories, photographs, relationships, timelines, responsibilities, shared projects, wishes, and selected access for family members. The CLEAR Kit does not depend on Heirloom & Tell.
Can I use Heirloom & Tell if I already own a Nokbox?
Yes. You do not need to replace a filing system that already works for you.
Heirloom & Tell and Buried in Work resources can add digital family organization, belongings tracking, practical guidance, checklists, and family support around information you have already collected.
Can I complete and update the CLEAR Kit digitally?
Yes.
Every worksheet is available as a fillable digital file. You can type your answers, save them, update them later, and print new copies whenever something changes.
You can also complete the printed worksheets by hand. Many people use both approaches, depending on the section.
The numbered pages make updates simple. Instead of redoing the entire kit, you can revise one file, print one page, and place it back in the correct section.
How are the digital forms updated?
Fillable digital copies of the CLEAR Kit worksheets are included. Updated files can be downloaded as the CLEAR Kit evolves, so you can replace individual pages without starting over.
Already have a Nokbox? Keep it.
Nothing you have organized is wasted.
You may decide Nokbox does everything you need. You may also want to add digital family organization, belongings tracking, interactive checklists, practical guidance, directories, or family collaboration through Buried in Work and Heirloom & Tell.
There is no reason to discard good work simply because your needs have changed or grown.
Organize the information. Help your family know what comes next.
CLEAR Kit is more than a place to store paperwork. It is a personalized, guided system designed to help you prepare now and give your family a clearer place to begin when they need to step in.
